OCPS graduates with Superintendent Barbara Jenkins
Did you know?
  • You are your child's first teacher. Be positive and supportive about homework.
  • Do not do the homework for your child, but rather be available to assist if needed.
  • Have a routine and structure for doing homework. Have a regularly scheduled time and place with supplies and limited distractions (like TV).
  • If homework is done in an afterschool program, take time to check and discuss it with your child.
  • Parent homework can include reading to your child or visiting Bedtime Math.
Below you will find free online resources designed to help parents help their students work through these new, more rigorous standards.

Understanding the New Standards
The Florida Standards website for parents and students provides tools and resources to help you prepare your child for success at each grade level. Resources include an explanation of the new standards, the We Can Do This, Florida! mathematics video series which show teachers and students interacting with the new Math standards, and links to a parent newsletter and blog. Click HERE.
Grade-Level Instructional Resources
Choose your child’s grade level under the “Instructional Resources by Grade Level” heading on the left side of this page to access Parent Guides to the New Standards, OCPS testing dates, online textbook and curriculum resources as well as instructional videos for you to use at home.
Florida Tutorials and Student Resources
The Florida Department of Education recently released www.FloridaStudents.org.  This new site includes hundreds of interactive resources to support student learning in language arts, mathematics, science and civics.
Understanding the New Assessments
The Florida Standards Assessments website provides resources to familiarize you with the new assessments replacing FCAT 2.0. Parents and students are encouraged to go online to read about the assessments and to participate in training tests which will allow students to become familiar with the online testing system and types of questions asked. Answer keys are also provided. Click HERE.
