Students awarded $24,000 in scholarships

The Orlando Magic Youth Fund surprised four Orange County high school students awarding them college scholarships totaling $24,000. Magic Community Ambassador Bo Outlaw, STUFF the Magic mascot, along with the Magic’s scholarship committee traveled to each winner’s high school surprising the students with large novelty checks and news of their scholarships.
Edgewater High School student Davon Sherman was awarded the Valencia College Magic Scholarship. He plans to study creative writing or journalism.

Edgewater High School student David Mercedes was awarded the Seminole State Magic Scholarship. He plans to study finance and hopes to one day get his MBA. 

Evans High School student Joan Marcelin, and Boone High School student Shaiquan Williams were also awarded the Valencia College Magic Scholarships.
The academic requirements include a minimum 880 SAT score or a minimum 18 ACT score, a weighted cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale along with extracurricular activities/honors, two letters of recommendation and a 500 word essay on ‘what has been the most influential incident in your life to date and why?’. The student must be degree seeking and attend Valencia College or Seminole State College in the fall.
