Apprenticeship Program:

The purpose of the registered apprenticeship program is to enable employers to develop and apply industry standards to training programs for registered apprentices that can increase productivity and improve the quality of the workforce.

Apprentices who complete registered apprenticeship programs are accepted by the industry as journeymen. By providing on-the-job training, related classroom instruction, and guaranteed wage structures, employers who sponsor apprentices provide incentives to attract and retain more highly qualified employees and improve productivity.

Certifications earned through registered apprenticeship programs are recognized nationwide.

OCPS is committed to providing the highest quality training programs available. To this end, the district has established an Apprenticeship Program with the following requirement:

Construction Contractor’s Subcontractors shall employ at least one (1) apprentice on an OCPS Project for each subcontract involving MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) and fire sprinkler systems, and if the journeyman level reaches 10, a 1:10 ratio will be the goal of apprentices to journeymen on each such subcontract.

For purposes of this paragraph, “Journeyman” means a person working in an apprentice able occupation who has successfully completed a registered apprenticeship program or who has worked the number of years required by established industry practices for that person's particular trade or occupation.
