The School Board of Orange County held its regularly-scheduled board meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center. These are the highlights of the meeting:

School Board approves teacher salary increases pending CTA ratification

The School Board and the Classroom Teachers Association (CTA) collaboratively bargained a 2019-20 contract agreement in compliance with Section 1012.22, Florida Statutes.

The one-year agreement highlights are:

  • Average 5.5% salary increase
  • Teachers rated “Highly Effective” will receive a $2,800 annual salary increase
  • Teachers rated “Effective” will receive a $2,100 annual salary increase
  • District will pay insurance increases for all employees for the 2019-20 school year
  • Retro pay back to the first duty-day

 

School Board approves changes to OESPA contract for 2019-20

The School Board and the Orange Education Support Professionals Association (OESPA) collaboratively bargained a contract that includes an additional compensation package.

OESPA previously ratified an average 4% salary increase in July.

  • The new package includes an additional 1.5% salary increase, adjusting the new average increase to 5.5% to the hourly wage of all eligible classified employees in a benefited position. 
  • The new minimum, hourly wage for OCPS employees in a benefited position will be $10.75.
  • District will pay insurance increases for all employees for the 2019-20 school year
  • Retro pay back to the first duty-day

 

School Board approves salary increases for Administrative/Technical, School-based Administrators and Food Service Managers for 2019-20

School-based Administrators, Administrative/Technical Personnel, Executive Management and Food Service Managers in position by January 15, 2019, will receive a 5.5% salary increase. All wage adjustments and increases are effective July 1, 2019 and employees must have been actively employed with OCPS at the time these increases are paid in order to be eligible to receive them. The district will pay insurance increases for all employees for the 2019-20 school year. Cabinet salary increases are contingent upon CTA ratification.

Pam Gould was elected vice chairman of the Orange County School Board. School Board meeting dates and times established for the next year

Historically, the school board has been conducting regular board meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. This practice will continue with the following modifications:

  • one meeting in December 2019 due to Winter Break
  • one meeting in March 2020 due to Spring Break
  • one meeting in July 2020 due to summer vacations

The tentative budget public hearing meeting on July 30, 2020 meets requirements for the Truth In Millage (TRIM). All school board meetings will begin at 5:30 p.m.

District observes Nov. 11-15 as School Psychology Week

Orange County Public Schools celebrates the work of school psychologists by recognizing National School Psychology Week during November 11-15. All children and youth learn best when they are healthy, supported, and receive an education that helps to develop their individual strengths. Schools can more effectively ensure that all students are able to learn and are invested in their learning when they meet the needs of the whole child. School Board proclaims Nov. 20 as Education Support Professionals Day

National Education Support Professionals Day was first celebrated in 1987. It was established as a special way to honor the essential role education support professionals play in creating great public schools for every student. Education Support Professionals provide a safe and healthy learning environment for students and work tirelessly to serve our students and communities with care and professionalism.
