The School Board of Orange County held its regularly-scheduled board meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center. These are the highlights of the meeting:
 
Honorable Judge Kevin B. Weiss conducted the school board member installation ceremony
Newly-elected school board member Vicki-Elaine Felder (District 5) and re-elected board members Melissa Byrd (District 7) and Pam Gould (District 4) took the Oath of Office at tonight’s meeting. Re-elected board member Karen Castor Dentel (District 6) could not be present but took her oath earlier. She was present by phone for comment.

Vicki-Elaine Felder headshotVicki-Elaine Felder is a lifelong Orange County resident who lives in the Washington Shores community. She is a teacher who has committed 40 years in the classroom for Orange County Public Schools. Her teaching assignments included Dr. Phillips High School, Evans High School, Edgewater High School and Valencia College Summer Academic Program for accelerated students from Jones High School. Additionally, she has served as an English tutor for students from Edgewater High School for the Rollins College Upward Bound Program.

Vicki-Elaine is a Jones High School graduate. Her passion led her to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from Spelman College, and a Master of Arts degree in Speech and Theatre from Kansas State University. She completed Post-Graduate work in English from the University of Central Florida and completed work in Cinema and Film Study as a Narrative from the TISCH School of the Arts at New York University.
Vicki-Elaine is known as a wordsmith and orator. She paints the power of words and ideas on the minds and canvas of those who hear her; especially her students. She possesses the versatility to reach for hidden potential found in all of her students. This serves as a testimony of her ability and her commitment as a champion for education.

Mrs. Pam Gould was first elected to the school board in 2012 and was subsequently re-elected in 2016 and 2020. She brings years of executive experience from the industries of healthcare, hospitality and entertainment. The vice-chair of the school board serves a one-year term.
 

School Board meeting dates and times established for the next year
Historically, the school board has been conducting regular board meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. This practice will continue with the following modifications: 
·         one meeting in December 200 due to Winter Break
·         one meeting in March 2021 due to Spring Break
·         one meeting in July 2021 due to summer vacations

 
The tentative budget public hearing meeting on July 27, 2021, meets the requirements for the Truth In Millage (TRIM).  All school board meetings will remain with a 5:30 p.m. start time.
