The School Board of Orange County held its regularly-scheduled board meeting at 4:45 p.m. at the Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center. These are the highlights of the meeting:

OCPS observes Feb. 17 as National PTA Founders’ Day
School Board members honor and recognize February 17, 2021 as National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Founders’ Day. On that day, we celebrate the legacy and work of the PTA founders: Alice McLellan Birney, Phoebe Apperson Hearst and Selena Sloan Butler. Our local Orange County Council of PTAs and its 140 PTA units are celebrating 61 years of commitment to making every child’s potential a reality through family-school partnerships, community outreach and advocacy. Please read the National PTA Founders’ Day proclamation.

District will recognize Feb. 20-27 as National FFA Week
The School Board proclaims February 20-27, 2021 as National FFA Week. The purpose of the observance is to recognize and promote FFA and its mission to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agriculture education in Orange County Public Schools.  This is the National FFA Week proclamation.

Feb. 22-26 recognized as Public Schools Week at OCPS
The fourth week of February has been nationally-designated as Public Schools Week to recognize the role public schools have in setting young adults on the path to a fulfilling life.  Public Schools Week brings together Learning First Alliance members, educators, parents and many others across the country to show the strength and potential of the nation’s public schools and students’ futures.  This is the Public Schools Week proclamation.
