The School Board of Orange County held its regularly-scheduled board meeting at 4:45 p.m. at the Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center. These are the highlights of the meeting:

District will not offer LaunchED@Home as an educational option for 2021-22 school year

The Superintendent shared with the School Board that the district will not offer LaunchED@Home as an educational option for the 2021-22 school year. Supt. Barbara Jenkins stated that while the district was hopeful that the Florida Department of Education would decide on the continuation of the LaunchED@Home model and potential funding any further delay of a decision would be a hardship on our students, their families, and our schools who need to be able to plan now for next year. If there is a change of heart at the state level and additional information does come down, the issue will be revisited.

Parents and guardians may enroll their child in Orange County Virtual School if they do not wish for their student to return to “face-to-face” learning next school year. The district’s website ocps.net has additional information about virtual learning under the OCVS graphic on the front page.

School Board votes unanimously to reject all proposals for property in Eatonville and reissue subsequent RFP

School Board members agree to reissue a subsequent RFP in the near future regarding proposals for a 116-acre piece of property along Interstate 4 in Eatonville. The district has been working with the town of Eatonville to find a suitable developer to build on the property in an effort to grow the town economically. The property is one of the largest undeveloped tracts along I-4 between Deltona and Walt Disney World.
