School Board reviews Code of Student Conduct for the 2022-23 school year and discusses the Superintendent search process

During today’s School Board Work Session, the Orange County School Board reviewed school board policy JIC - Code of Student Conduct and discussed the search for a new superintendent in advance of the retirement of Dr. Barbara Jenkins.

The purpose of this work session was to review the current Code of Student Conduct and seek input from the School Board.

Proposed changes to School Board Policy JIC – Code of Student Conduct:
     •  Remove face masks from dress code
     •  Revise “Electronic Device Violations” and “District Technology Violations”
     •  Add buying tobacco/nicotine products

View the PowerPoint presentation.

Superintendent search update:
Members of the School Board then discussed the next steps in the Superintendent search process. School board members would like to work with the Florida School Board Association as a search firm in addition to getting input from our stakeholders in public forums and through a survey. They would also like to create an advisory committee to assist.

Next steps: School Board policies JIC will be reviewed and presented at future meetings. A future work session will be scheduled to meet with the FSBA.

*Reminder* Work sessions are live-streamed on the School Board’s YouTube channel and will be accessible from web browsers on computers or mobile devices.
