RE:  NOTIFICATION OF INSPECTION FOR ASBESTOS MANAGEMENT IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Under 40 CFR Part 763, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires all Local Education Agencies (LEA's) to identify and manage asbestos containing materials (ACM) in their school buildings. This notification has been specifically written for school buildings constructed after 1989 which were specified to not contain asbestos building materials.

The original Asbestos Management Plans were created in 1989 by a Licensed Asbestos Consultant. School buildings built after 1989 were specified to be constructed without asbestos containing building materials. The Asbestos Management Plan for the school includes the Substantial Completion documentation signed by the Architect and/or Engineer verifying the buildings were specified to not contain asbestos.

The Asbestos Management Plan is located in the Administrative Office of this school and at the Environmental Compliance Department and is available for review upon request.

All questions regarding the Asbestos Management Plan should be directed to the School Administration or Environmental Compliance Department at [email protected] or (407) 317-3700.

Additional information and links to the U.S. EPA's website on asbestos in schools can be found on the OCPS Environmental Compliance internet site under the environmental programs tab
