The mission of the OCPS Wind and Percussion Instrumental Program is to develop literate student musicians who achieve excellence in performance through cultural, expressive, technical, and creative experiences.
Band is not placed in schools primarily to produce professional musicians, but to serve as a force of training youth in the business of living. Aside from the performance fundamentals set by the state, the chief objectives that are obtained in OCPS band programs are character building, cooperation, loyalty and respect, dependability, responsibility, punctuality, leadership, and of course the introduction and performance of great music literature. Belonging to the school music program will be a rewarding and enlightening experience for all students. It provides an opportunity to develop musical skills as well as social interaction as students learn to operate as a cohesive unit.
