Durrance Elementary School Magnet

 

Durrance Elementary’s magnet program provides an enhanced curriculum focusing on science with connections to the worlds of aviation and aerospace.  Students will have the opportunity to learn science content through hands on, minds on experiments.  These take place in a science lab and the regular classroom.  For the applicable science units, teachers extend the concepts to include any aviation or aerospace links, creating a web of understanding between the state benchmarks and the magnet topic.
Participating students enter the program in Kindergarten grade, with placement in all other grades as space permits.
Transportation is not provided for this program.

Hillcrest Elementary School Magnet
Hillcrest Elementary is a foreign language academy where students, parents, staff and the community work as a tam to support a safe and positive multicultural learning environment. We address the whole child, foster academic excellence, develop responsible citizens and inspire life-long learning. The Foreign Language Academy was created to provide the opportunity for all students to become bilingual, bi-literate and bicultural. The established language enrichment programs are French and Spanish.
            Participating students may enter the program in kindergarten through fifth grade. 
  Transportation is not provided for this program.

Hunter’s Creek Elementary School Magnet

      Hunter’s Creek Elementary School’s Two-Way Dual Language Program model integrates language minority and language majority students in the same classroom with the goal of academic excellence and bilingual proficiency for both student groups. Students of both language groups are combined for most content instruction in an environment which promotes language and social equality while supporting full bilingual proficiency for both native and non-native speakers of English.  Our Dual Language Enrichment Program strives to cultivate understanding and appreciation of other cultures, inspire self-esteem, and strengthen positive attitudes among students, their families, and the community. Careful attention is paid to the development of bilingualism, bi-literacy, and academic attainment for all participants. Students are expected to achieve academically at or above grade level in all content areas in both languages.

Participating students enter the program in kindergarten and there is limited consideration for other grades with language assessment.

 Tildenville Elementary School Magnet

Tildenville Elementary School's Dual Language Enrichment Program provides an immersion model for English speaking students. It is designed to develop oral fluency and literacy in both English and Spanish, achieve proficiency in all academic subjects and cultivate an understanding and appreciation of other cultures. The Dual Language Enrichment Program is a rigorous academic program that uses monthly themes to integrate the curriculum  and provide the student with enough exposure to practice, use and extend his/her vocabulary. Students also learn from each other, developing high levels of confidence and self-esteem through their study of two languages, thus developing a positive attitude toward fellow students, their families and their community. 

Participating students enter the program in kindergarten and there is limited consideration for other grades with language assessment.

Union Park Elementary School Magnet

Union Park Elementary School's Two-Way Developmental Bilingual Enrichment Magnet  promotes and creates bilingualism, biliteracy, grade-level academic achivement and multicultural competencies using an immersion model. The program consists of an English and Spanish dual-language component. An integrated student population recieves literacy and content instruction through the two languages for all content areas. Students receive fifty percent of the content integrated curriculum instruction in Spanish and fifty percent of the content integrated instruction in English. Students are expected to achieve at or above academic standards in both languages.

Participating students enter the program in kindergarten and there is limited consideration for other grades with language assessment.
