District’s Proposal Includes an Increased Bonus of $1,250

District leaders, on behalf of the School Board, met with the Classroom Teachers Association (CTA) Thursday, Sept. 19, and extended an offer on compensation and benefits for the 2019-20 school year.The school board added $11.5 million from the unassigned reserve fund to increase the one-time bonus from $500 to $1,250 for all teachers.
The offer includes a salary increase of $2,025 for teachers rated as Highly Effective and an increase of $1,625 for teachers rated as Effective. This increase represents an average 4% increase in annual salary for all teachers.
If approved by the CTA all 14,000 teachers will have the opportunity to vote on the increases. You do not have to be a member of the CTA to vote.
The comprehensive offer details are as follows:
Compensation
•
Teachers with a 2018-19 evaluation summative rating of “Highly Effective” will receive a $1,525 salary increase in addition to the $500 COLA (total increase is $2,025 per year)
o
Example: Highly Effective teacher making $48,000 per year will receive $2,025, a 4.22% increase in annual salary (83.49% of teachers are Highly Effective)
•
Teachers with a 2018-19 evaluation summative rating of “Effective” will receive $1,125 salary increase in addition to the $500 COLA. (total increase is $1,625 per year)
o
Example: Effective teacher making $48,000 per year will receive $1,625, a 3.4% increase in annual salary (12.16% of teachers are Effective)

Beginning teacher salary will increase to $40,500
•
Employees must be in an active employment status as of the day of payout to receive the bonus.

Working Conditions
•
Beginning in the 2020-21 school year, one day would be added to preplanning, up from five days to six days, with scheduled activities restricted to 2½ days for the school/district and providing teachers with 3½ days in their classrooms
•
Would, by Letter of Understanding, reach agreement regarding Domain 4 ratings and comments and Appeals Committee Decision Tiebreaker Process
•
Would reduce work year for school psychologists from 258 days to 228 days
