She is the Chief Financial Officer for LIA a 501(c)(3) scientific educational professional society. A member of American Society of Association Executives, Council of Engineering and Scientific Society Executives, Florida Society of Association Executives, and Kiwanis Club of East Orange County. Ed Velazquez has been a resident of the City of Apopka for the last 12 years, and is currently active with civic organizations in Apopka. He was born, raised and educated in Puerto Rico, graduating from high school in San German, PR. He served in the US Army for four years as a paratrooper, and is a combat veteran of the Vietnam War. Ed attended Officers Candidate School, and was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant from the US Army Reserve. After his active military duty, he made New York City his home, and attended the NYC Police Academy, subsequently retiring after twenty years of service as a detective investigator. He was also a correction officer for the City of New York for 14 months. Ed has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from St. John’s University, a Masters of Business Administration from Long Island University, NY, and a Masters of Science in Economic Crime Management from Utica College, NY.
He has additional work experience as a financial crimes investigator with the Bank Of New York. He retired from the bank in March 2004. Ed is married to Diane Velazquez, who is a City of Apopka Commissioner, and together they have two adult sons.
