Three new Orange County schools, five renovated or replacement schools and one new high school gym are ready to debut through Sneak Peeks in the coming weeks. The projects represent a $255.7 million investment in students by Orange County taxpayers.
Three new schools - Summerlake Elementary, Sunshine Elementary and Vista Pointe Elementary - will bring the total number of OCPS schools to 202. Summerlake is located in Horizon West, Sunshine is in the South International Drive area and Vista Pointe is in the Southeast Orlando/Lee Vista area.
The 2020 projects continued work through the spring and summer and created more than 1,900 jobs. The economic impact of the projects in Orange County is $292.2 M.
Magnolia School, a specialized school for students with mental, developmental and physical challenges, is hosting tours of their custom-built replacement school on Thursday, August 6, from 3 to 6 p.m. Media is invited to tour Magnolia by appointment only. Please contact [email protected] to set an appointment time. The school was built specifically for the students' needs and include a greenhouse, a model hotel room, a commercial culinary kitchen and a sensory room.
Six schools and the Boone High gym are hosting Virtual Sneak Peeks on their web sites, with in-person tours to be held at a later date.
"Our storied programs date back to 1952," said Boone High principal Dusty Johns. "We will miss our old gym, but this place is simply tremendous and primed for the tradition to live on."
