Stopping for School Buses:
It's More than just the Law; It's a Child's Life

Below are illustrations describing when motorists must stop and when motorists may proceed when a school bus is stopped and displaying its stop signals.

Vehicles traveling in both directions must Stop on a two lane road or in a multi-lane paved road that is not divided by a minimum 5 foot unpaved space or other solid barrier

What's wrong with this picture? Red Stop sign indicating the black car should not attempt to pass the school bus.

Please remain alert throughout the school year!

The inconvenience of an extra few seconds spent waiting for a stopped school bus is insignificant compared to loss of the life of a child.

Florida Motor Vehicle Laws require that motorists stop upon approaching any school bus which displays its flashing red lights and has its stop signs extended.

In a 180-day school year, it is estimated that there are almost two million illegal “passes” of Florida school buses, each representing the possibility of tragic injuries or fatalities to students.

Thank You!
