Military Experience - Credit for up to four years of active military duty in the armed forces of the United States with an honorable discharge may be granted upon presentation of the DD-214 form.
Advanced Degrees - An official college transcript showing the date and award of the advanced degree must be provided to the OCPS Certification Department. A certificate, diploma, or other award will not be recognized as an earned degree. A foreign degree must be validated. Employees will be paid at the bachelor’s degree level until such time as an advanced degree is verified. Salary adjustment for advanced degrees shall be retroactive to the date the degree was conferred or the employee’s start date, whichever is later. Employment Services must receive the official transcript by the last duty day of the employee’s contract period in order to receive salary credit in the current school year.
Teaching Experience - Salary credit is given for teaching experience in Florida public and Florida charter schools.
Teaching experience credit for out of State schools, private schools and colleges/universities will only be granted for which the employee received a satisfactory performance evaluation as indicated on the experience credit form.
Private School and/or College teaching experience will not exceed a total of 15 years.
One day more than the number of days constituting one-half year of another state’s regular school year is considered one year of credit. No salary credit is given for substitute teaching, graduate assistantships, private nursery school or kindergarten teaching, unless the kindergarten was part of an elementary school. Employees are paid at the level of zero experience until the completed experience verification forms are received in Employment Services. Then their updated salary will be retroactive to their start date. Verification forms must be received by the last duty day of the employee’s contract period to receive salary credit for the current school year for military, advanced degree or teaching experience.
Non-instructional employees in benefited positions may be granted salary credit for full-time work experience related to the candidate’s new position with Orange County Public Schools.
