 Principal's Message

Hello, my name is Karen Furno and I am the new principal of Avalon Middle School.
First let me say that I am very excited to be joining the Avalon Middle School community.  I have been given a very warm welcome from all the staff and the parents I had the opportunity to meet during the two meet and greet events we hosted here at the school.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Frank for her service to this community for over 8 years and I know you all join me in wishing her well in her retirement from Orange County Public Schools.
Today we kicked off literacy week with grade level assemblies in the gymnasium.  I had the opportunity to meet many of your children and you would be very proud by how well they represented themselves and their families.  They have been so friendly and welcoming.
As we celebrate literacy around our state this week, our school has planned activities to celebrate and acknowledge good reading habits.  Students who are caught reading and participate in activities will be able to earn rewards and win prizes.
As parents, you can help your child by encouraging them to read not only this week but on a daily basis as they strive to be lifelong learners.
Thank you.
