Athletic Director’s Message
Welcome to Lake Nona Athletics. I want to start by saying how proud I am with the progress our Athletic Programs have made in the past 3 years. I’m extremely excited as we head into our 4th year as we continuously look to improve each and every year. I would like to share some of our successes we enjoyed last year: Lake Nona had 6 District runner-up finishes, 4 District Champions, 3 Metro Conference runner-up finishes, 1 Metro Conference Champion, 2 Regional runner-up finishes, 2 Regional Champions, 2 State final 4 qualifiers, 1 State runner-up, and 1 State Championship. We had 16 All-Metro Conference Players, 8 All District Players, 3 All-County players, 5 All-Central Florida Players, 8 All-State Players, 1 Class 5A Players of the Year, 1 Individual District runner-up, 8 Individual District Champions, 5 Individual Regional runner-ups, 4 State Champions, 51 Individual Regional Qualifiers, 17 Individual State Qualifiers, 2 Metro Coach of the Year. Additionally, Lake Nona was ranked 3 times in the Orlando Sentinel’s “Super 12” rankings and had 22 FHSAA Academic Team Champions. We had 11 College Athletic Scholarship recipients and we increased our total wins from 97 in 2009-10 to 189 in 2010-11 to 466 in 2011-12.
Finally, Lake Nona Athletics was awarded the FHSAA Fred E. Rozelle Sportsmanship Award for the 2011-12 school year for the 5A Classification. This award honors schools with athletic teams who have shown exemplary sportsmanship during their sports seasons. I am truly proud of this accomplishment, as well as, our 22 FHSAA Academic Team Champions. Both the Accomplishments show a great deal about the coaches and student-athletes we have here at Lake Nona.
A special “Thank You” goes out to all our Athletes and Coaches who put in so much time to continue to get better! I would also like to say “Thank You” to our Parents and Community for all the support you have shown our Athletic Program from the beginning. It has truly been a TEAM effort! Finally, I would like to encourage everyone to come out and support Lake Nona Athletics, our coaching staff, and our student-athletes and we continue to get better at getting better. Together we will be great! GO LIONS!
