A minority students enroll in Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus

The goal of the Calculus Project is to increase the number of minority students who enroll in and complete Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus.

Completing AP Calculus in high school creates enhanced opportunities for students to enter the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The program utilizes Acceleration front-loading strategies to teach key mathematics concepts to students during the summer before their enrollment in an honors math course in the fall and then continues to offer Acceleration lessons throughout the year. Beginning in middle school with rising 7th Graders who enroll in the mathematics enrichment course, Algebra I Honors Preview, the Calculus Project strengthens the relationships of the three groups of stakeholders vital to closing the achievement gap in mathematics: students, parents, and teachers.
