COVID 19 INFORMATION

As the Superintendent recently stated, the COVID-19 pandemic has touched all of our lives. OCPS has lost friends, family members and team members. We understand that last year was like no other in recent history and OCPS must do its part as responsible citizens of this great community.

FACE COVERINGS:

Under the delegated authority granted to the Superintendent in School Board Policy EBBA, Face Coverings, are mandatory for all OCPS employees, all preK-12 students, and adults while inside our facilities or vehicles and in the presence of another individual. The universal mask mandate will begin Monday, August 30 and will last until October 30th. The mask mandate will not be required for any student with a note from a doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant, or an  employee with a medical exemption.

All visitors entering buildings, including volunteers, vendors, parents and guardians will be required to wear a face covering. This extra layer of mitigation will provide some protection to employees and students as we continue to monitor community trends in consultation with medical experts.

OCPS is aware, however, that certain medical conditions make it difficult for an individual to wear a face covering. These may include: 

  • Individuals who have a diagnosed breathing condition
  • Individuals who are unable to place or remove the face covering
  • Individuals with facial deformities incompatible with wearing a face covering
  • Individuals with severe skin disorders
  • Individuals with chronic pulmonary illness

For those with health conditions that make wearing a face covering difficult, exemptions to School Board Policy EBBA will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  Employees should complete and submit the COVID-19 Employee face covering Exemption Request and Medical Certification form.  Until such time as the waiver is approved, employees requesting the exemption will be required to wear the proper face covering while inside a school/facility or other property and/or vehicle owned, leased, or operated by the School Board.

COVID-19 REMOTE WORK REQUESTS

As previously communicated, it has been determined that the ability to work remotely will no longer be granted as a workplace accommodation for COVID 19.

All employees are expected to report to their work locations for their scheduled work assignments.  This determination is consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act and guidance from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Onsite employees can request additional Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) at their location, or request to take a Leave of Absence in accordance with School Board Policies GCC and GDC.

Leave of Absence request forms can be found on the OCPS Intranet at Request for Leave of Absence.

For those employees who took leave for the entire school year based upon having a high-risk condition, be advised that under School Board Policies GCC and GDC “No leave shall be granted for a period in excess of one (1) year.”  This is also consistent with Article XVII, Section A (13) of the CTA Contract.

COVID 19 VACCINATION EXCEPTIONS

OCPS strongly encourages staff and parents of eligible students to consider the vaccine in consultation with your health advisor.  OCPS is aware, however, that certain employees may be unable to receive a COVID 19 vaccination. Employees may submit a vaccination exception for one of two reasons:  

This will also support the OCPS agreement that allows fully vaccinated or approved reasonable accommodation employees required to miss work by the District because of COVID-related circumstances, to be placed on medical relief of duty with pay for the time prescribed by the Florida Department of Health of Orange County.

COVID 19 VACCINATION INCENTIVES

As previously announced, through the OCPS Employee Wellness Program, we are offering a $200 incentive to any full or part-time employee who is fully vaccinated by Oct. 31, 2021. Fully vaccinated is defined as two weeks after an individual’s second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine. Certification of vaccination can be provided on the MyOCPS portal.  Employees unable to receive a COVID 19 vaccination may submit a vaccination exception.  Additional information regarding this process is available through the Wellness Portal.
