School Board meeting highlights (Aug. 10, 2021)
The School Board of Orange County held its regularly-scheduled board meeting at 4:45 p.m. at the Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center. These are the highlights of the meeting:
School Board discussion surrounding governor’s executive order and mask mandates
At the 16-minute mark of the meeting, school board members requested the district legal counsel provide an overview of the governor’s executive order, Florida Constitution, statutes and rules that apply to school district mask mandates in Broward, Alachua and Leon counties. Legal specifically addressed the letter Leon County Schools received from the Florida Department of Education regarding their mask mandate decision. This was an informational discussion with no official action taken by the board. View the discussion.
Changes regarding administrative personnel
Superintendent Barbara Jenkins introduced the following new administrators:
Jennifer Marie Aprea, assistant principal, Olympia High
Corey Lynn Johns, assistant principal, Orange County Virtual
Tamara Joan Medrano, assistant principal, Cypress Springs Elementary
Heather Ann Rodriguez, assistant principal, Memorial Middle
Rebecca Joy Young, assistant principal, Rosemont Elementary
Daniel Kempinger, principal, Glenridge Middle
