Great Beginnings 24-25
Great Beginnings is the welcome and introduction of OCPS’ way of work and vision of instruction for beginning teachers and the kick-off to the OCPS New Teacher Induction Program. Research shows that “new teachers who participate in a comprehensive induction program stay in the profession longer and have greater success in terms of job satisfaction and student achievement” (Harris, 2015). The focus for our beginning teacher professional learning aligns with the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices, which are Florida’s core standards for educators. They are what effective educators are expected to know and be able to do.

Great Beginnings will be offered face-to-face. You must have access to a laptop as the content will be presented using a blended learning model. Contact your school for device issuance and make sure to log in with your OCPS credentials before leaving campus. The TSR can help you.

Who can attend Great Beginnings?

  • Great Beginnings is intended for any teacher with fewer than four years of experience who has not completed the OCPS New Teacher Induction Program. This could include:
    Beginning teachers newly hired for the 2024-2025 school year
  • Teachers hired during the 2023-2024 school year who did not complete Great Beginnings and rehired to a school for the 2024-2025 school year
  • Teachers on a temporary contract in the 2023-2024 school and rehired as a teacher for the 2024-2025 school year
     
    Newly hired teachers must attend and be cleared through OCPS Pre-Orientation (PREO) before attending Great Beginnings. Check clearance status with the school secretary.

Where is Great Beginnings offered?

Great Beginnings will be offered face-to-face at University High School.

When is Great Beginnings?

Two sessions of Great Beginnings will be offered over the summer: Session A - July 15-16, 2024 and Session B - July 17-18, 2024 from 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. each day. Participants will select one 2-day session to attend. Please allow 1 week after submission of your registration request form to receive a status update via email.
