Guidelines for Educational Paraprofessional Certification

(Paraprofessionals are those individuals with job titles of educational paraprofessional or program assistant.)

In order to meet the requirement to become a "certified" paraprofessional, there are two (2) options:

Option #1:

You must have either completed at least two years of study (at least 60 semester hours) from an institution of higher education, or have obtained an Associate's degree or higher. If you have a foreign degree, you must have it translated into English, and have the credits evaluated. For information on having foreign transcripts evaluated, please visit www.naces.org.

(If you qualify to be a certified paraprofessional under Option 1, please attach your transcripts at the time you register/apply with OCPS online.)

Option #2:

You must have passed the ETS ParaPro Assessment with a score of 464 or above. The test is offered in an on-line format and your cost to take the exam is $65.00. Please click on this link for the Parapro Assessment website www.ets.org/parapro for information regarding this test.

The ParaPro Assessment is offered on-line at Orange Technical College Testing Center located on the Mid-Florida Campus, 2900 W. Oakridge Road, Building 300.
