All schools have been assessed by our facilities and maintenance teams. The impacts from Hurricane Milton are minimal. We will reopen all schools for students Tuesday, October 15.
Due to the number of instructional minutes in our students’ schedule we will only need to make up one of the four days missed due to Hurricane’s Helene and Milton. The make-up day for today will be Friday, October 25, as published in the prioritized bad weather days.
As a reminder, Monday was already a predetermined student holiday, teacher workday. All extracurricular and after-school activities may resume on Monday, October 14. Football games previously scheduled for this week will be played on Monday. Any athletic event and other student activities canceled due to the storm may be rescheduled, if possible. Practices may resume voluntarily this weekend.
We are grateful to our principals, assistant principals and additional staff who worked to service 11 school shelters during the storm as well as the clean up after Hurricane Milton.
If you are still cleaning up from the storm, please remember to take precautions and stay safe. Thank you for your support of OCPS. -
We hope you made it through the storm with minimal impacts. District staff are continuing the process of assessing the conditions of our schools and facilities. At this point, there is no evidence of any major damage. Staff will be addressing any remaining issues within the schools to ensure they are ready for students to return on Tuesday.
As a reminder, all schools will remain closed tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 11. There will be no school on Monday, Oct. 14 as it was already a designated student holiday, teacher workday.
At this time, we are confident all schools will be back up and operational for students to return Tuesday, Oct. 15.
All extracurricular and after-school activities may resume on Monday, October 14. Any missed athletic and other student activities may be rescheduled, if possible. Schools will be working on new dates and will update families.
We will provide another update tomorrow. In the meantime, if you or your family need assistance please go to the front page of OCPS for available resources or call Heart of Florida United Way’s 211 line.
Please continue to take care of your home and families and stay safe. -
I hope everyone is taking Hurricane Milton seriously and preparing your home and family. This storm has the potential for a significant impact on our community and schools.
As a reminder schools and district offices will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday. Due to the timing and projected path of the storm schools will be closed Friday, October 11. District offices will reopen on Friday and 12-month employees need to be prepared to return to work at their regular time. If any issues arise please contact your immediate supervisor.
The return of 12-month employees on Friday will allow for more time to safely assess all schools and facilities after the storm has passed. As a reminder, there will be no school on Monday, October 14th as it was already a designated student holiday, teacher workday.
If you and your family are in need of a shelter, Orange County Government has updated the list of shelters on its website OCFL - Shelters. There are special needs shelters and pet-friendly shelters as well.
