OCPS Community Schools

OCPS Community Schools

Schools for students from pre-K to 12th grade that work with local partners to support student learning, health, and family well-being

OCPS currently has two types of community school models:

Community Partnership School (CPS)

University Assisted Community School (UACS)

Community Partnership Schools

  • A Community Partnership School (CPS) is a public school where key community organizations work together to support student success and family well-being.

Each school includes four core partners:

    • The school district
    • A college or university
    • A non-profit organization
    • A healthcare provider

    Together, they:

    • Commit to a long-term partnership (at least 25 years)
    • Share decision-making and leadership
    • Focus on academics, health, and family support
    • Provide services based on the needs of the community

This model helps students thrive in school and builds stronger, healthier communities.

Community Schools Matter

Community schools help children thrive by bringing schools and communities together. They focus on the whole child — mind, body, and heart — and create strong, supportive neighborhoods.

Here’s why they matter:

🌱 Support for Every Child

  • Children do best when their schools support learning, health, and family needs.
  • Community schools bring in local partners to help meet those needs.

⚖️ Opportunity for All

  • Community schools help remove barriers so every child has a real chance to succeed.
  • They create welcoming environments where all students feel respected and supported, no matter their background or life experience.

🌟 Excellence and Opportunity

  • Every child deserves to feel safe, inspired, and challenged at school.
  • Community schools offer long-term support to help students grow, learn, and lead.

When students thrive, their families and communities grow stronger too.

Help Build Stronger Schools and Communities

When schools and communities work together, children thrive — and so do families and neighborhoods. Community schools bring learning, health, and support services into one place, giving every student the chance to succeed.

But they can’t do it alone.

You can make a difference by:

  • Partnering with a school to share your expertise or services
  • Donating funds or supplies to support programs and students
  • Volunteering your time to mentor, tutor, or lend a helping hand

Every contribution — big or small — helps create a safe, supportive, and inspiring place for children to learn and grow.
