Magnet Overview

Magnets have been established at elementary, middle, and high schools to provide an opportunity for students to engage in intensive study in specific areas. Magnets offer the opportunity for students to discover their talents and explore their interests while focusing on academic rigor.

OCPS magnet programs reflect the diversity of the district and are designated to attract students from across the district. Complete information will be listed in the school's magnet description.

High school magnets provide unique personalized learning communities. These programs of study are aimed at increasing student achievement and permit a student to focus on interests, talents, or career goals. Middle and elementary magnets provide students the opportunity to participate in challenging experiences that engage them in learning.

 

Important Dates for Applications for School Year 2027-2028: 

October 13, 2026 – Fall/Winter Application Opens

December 18, 2026 – Fall/Winter Application Closes

January 19, 2027 – Notification to Families of Lottery 1 Results

February 16, 2027 – Notification to Families of Lottery 2 Results

March 10, 2027 – Waitlist Application Opens (9 am EST)

August 24, 2027 – Last Day Seat Offers will be sent. All waitlists are discontinued.

The Magnet Application for the 26-27 School Year is now closed.

On October 13th, 2026, the application for the

27-28 School Year will open at 9 am.

Magnet Programs

Magnet Goals

  • Provide students the opportunity to exceed challenging state academic and achievement standards
  • Promote student diversity through choice
  • Enhance equitable access for all students to high quality education
  • Strengthen student knowledge of academic subjects that will lead to increased student acquisition of marketable career, technological and professional skills for informed career decisions 

Centralized Application Process
In order to be eligible for the lottery, an electronic application must be completed during the magnet application window. Students do not have to re-apply for admission into the same magnet program in which they have accepted a seat offer and enrolled.
 

Transportation
Transportation is not provided for students who are enrolled in magnet schools and magnet programs.
