Today, the Florida Department of Education released student test scores for its third grade English Language Arts assessment. Test scores in Orange County Public Schools outperformed the state average by a percentage point.

The table below displays the results for the district compared to 2018-19, before the pandemic. School-level data will be highlighted in our 2021-22 OCPS School Report Cards that will be released later this summer.

  ELA Grade 3
2021-22
ELA Grade 3
2018-19
OCPS   54%  55%
 State  53% 58%

Overall in OCPS, students scoring Level 3 or above decreased by 1 percentage point from 2018-19. The state average decreased by 5 percentage points from 2018-19. This information is partially used to determine student promotion and retention, and district and school-level accountability measures. This is the first time since 2018-19 that test scores are being used by the state for accountability measures.

“We are encouraged by the outcomes given the challenges of the last two years. Significant effort by our teachers, principals, support staff, central office and parents went into recovering lost learning. We acknowledge there remains much more work ahead,” Superintendent Barbara Jenkins said.
