Magnets receive national recognition

Recognizing Orange County Public Schools’ outstanding magnet programs, the Magnet Schools of America honors nine schools for their superiority.
 
Each year, MSA National Merit Awards recognize magnet schools that “demonstrate commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful desegregation and diversity efforts, and consistent delivery of high-quality educational services to all stakeholders.”
 
There are two levels of merit: Magnet School of Excellence Awards and Magnet School of Distinction Awards. Nine schools celebrate these designations:

 Arbor Ridge - 6-8 Option    Distinction
 Bay Meadows Elementary -- STEM Career Academy  Distinction
 Dr. Phillips High School - Visual and Performing Arts  Distinction
 Dr. Phillips High School - Center for International Studies  Distinction
  Howard Middle School - Academy of Arts  Distinction
 Hunter's Creek Elementary School- Two-Way Dual Language  Distinction
 Lakeview Middle School - World Language Academy  Distinction
 Roberto Clemente Middle -- International Baccalaureate MYP   Distinction
Tildenville Elementary School - Two-Way Dual Language  Distinction
 University High School - Performing Fine Arts  Excellence


Clinton McCracken headshotIn addition to the individual school recognitions, Howard Middle School’s Clinton McCracken, magnet coordinator and art teacher, was selected as the Region III Teacher of the Year and National MSA Teacher of the Year winner.
 
Two students also received these art honors:
