The School Board of Orange County held its regularly-scheduled board meeting at 4:45 p.m. at the Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center. These are the highlights of the meeting:

Board approved resolution for annual one-mill ad valorem millage vote in August
The School Board has determined it is in the best interests of the students of Orange County to submit to the voters, on August 23, the question of approving the continuation of a one-mill ad valorem millage increase for four additional years for essential operating expenses in order to compensate teachers and support staff, preserve academic programs, and protect arts, athletics and student activities necessary to maintain high-quality educational opportunities for all students. The funds are shared proportionately with charter schools based on student enrollment as required by law. The original one-mill ad valorem millage referendum was approved by Orange County voters in 2010 and was reapproved by the electors of Orange County in 2014 and 2018. Approved Resolution with ballot language.

Teachers are celebrated with some in-kind gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week
Teacher Appreciation Week will be recognized May 1-7, 2022, and we will celebrate Orange County Public Schools teachers’ contributions and commitment to student success during an unprecedented time for our children and their families. OCPS has 14,382 instructional staff members who support more than 206,000 students in 205 schools. Our community is grateful for the commitment teachers have to their students and their willingness to face the challenges of educating through distance learning with creativity and determination and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our Partners in Education are an example of our engaged and invested community that is willing to step up during difficult times. Our generous partners have contributed to celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week, which will include prize drawings and individual gifts for instructional staff.
