School Board reviews policies (May 31, 2022)

Orange County School Board members reviewed board policies, including the Code of Student Conduct, in a rule development workshop and work session. Proposed changes to the language in these policies are redlined in the links provided below.

DIE - Audits Financing Monitoring
EBB - Safety Program
JIC - Code of Student Conduct

JK - Discipline of Students*
JKA - Corporal Punishment*
JKB - Detention of Students*
JLIA - Supervision of Students*
EEAEC - Student Conduct on Buses*

(*Policies marked with a “*” are being recommended for repeal since they have been incorporated into JIC - Code of Student Conduct)

Additionally, the board received a Legislative Update from Scott Howat, Chief Communications Officer, and Jason LaGosh, Senior Director for Legislative and Congressional Relations. Their presentation included the PreK-12 education budget summary and state policy issues contained therein, as well as a summary of this year's legislative session. The board had an extensive discussion about these changes coming from Tallahassee. View the Legislative Update presentation
 
Next steps: The School Board will vote on the proposed changes in their regularly scheduled board meeting of June 14, 2022, and all policies will be effective upon approval. If approved, the Code of Student Conduct will be effective as of August 10, 2022, the first day of school for the 2022-2023 school year.
