Work Session on district policies, impasse format

Orange County School Board held a work session to review proposed changes to the following policies:

 

    • Policy B – School Board Governance
    • Policy BBBG –  Board Elections (suggestion is to incorporate this policy language into Policy BDC and to repeal Policy BBBG)
    • Policy BDC – Board Officers 
    • Policy BE – School Board Meetings 
    • Policy BCE –Executive Sessions 
    • Policy BEDH – Public Input at School Board Meetings 
    • Policy BIE – Board Members Insurance Liability (suggestion is to incorporate this policy language into Policy BDC and to repeal Policy BIE)

 

Changes to these policies are intended to ensure compliance with all current and applicable federal and state laws, Florida State Board of Education Rules, Board policies, administrative rules, and guidelines, as well as to reflect updates to procedural practices. 

Next steps: These proposed policy changes will be scheduled for a Rule Development Workshop and a School Board Meeting to receive additional public comment prior to approval. When approved, the new policies will be effective immediately.

Board members also discussed planning for the format of the upcoming Special Impasse Hearing on Health & Safety, scheduled for Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. The Board discussed the allotment of time for each side and whether the parties will be able to present new evidence or testimony specific to the rejected recommendations from the Special Magistrate.
