The School Board of Orange County held its regularly-scheduled board meeting at 4:45 p.m. at the Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center. These are the highlights of the meeting:
 
Board members receive school safety update
School Board members were presented with a Strategic Plan update by district staff as it relates to compliance with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, security improvements, new legislation and new requirements under the Florida Department of Education Rule 6A-1.0018. Chief of District Police Bryan Holmes presented and provided recommendations to the Board in the areas of: 
     • Police and Security
     • Emergency Operations and Preparedness
     • Physical Security Improvements
     • Mental Health

Oct. 23 – 31 proclaimed as Red Ribbon Week
During Red Ribbon Week, Informed Families/The Florida Family Partnership named Little River Elementary and Apopka Middle as the 2021 winners. Congratulations to Arbor Ridge K-8, Freedom Middle and Lancaster Elementary for receiving their Red Ribbon re-certification. Read proclamation.

Changes regarding administrative personnel
Superintendent Barbara Jenkins introduced the following new administrators:
Andrea Denise Hale, assistant principal, Orlando Gifted Academy
Cannon Cameron, assistant principal, ESE Transition School
