Before and Afterschool Programs

The hours after school ends and before parents get home from work are a time when children have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning, interact with their peers, work under the care and supervision of supportive mentors, build on lessons learned during the school day and more. According to research, participating in afterschool programs has consistently increased over the past 10 years, rising by nearly 2 million children in the last five years. In 2014, nearly one-quarter of families and 18 percent of children rely on afterschool programs to provide a safe and supportive environment, inspired learning, and fill the gap between when the school day and when the workday ends (American After 3 PM Report, 2014). OCPS offers a variety of programs.
