Magnet Description

The Veterinary Animal Science and Services Magnet at Colonial High School prepares students for a wide variety of careers in the animal science industries. Through hands-on engaging instruction, students interact with companion, wildlife, zoological, and livestock animal species. The curriculum advances from agricultural science to in-depth study of animal anatomy and physiology, behavior, management, reproduction, and care. Classes prepare students to earn an industry certification as a Specialist of Animal Science, an adult level certification through the Florida Farm Bureau, which is recognized state-wide. Through involvement in the Orlando Colonial FFA, a student-run leadership organization for those in the animal science program, magnet members compete in a wide variety of related topics, including Veterinary Science, Aquaculture, Environmental and Natural Resources, Livestock and over 20 additional career development event areas. Members engage in service activities, travel for experiential educational field trips, learn from guest speakers in the animal industry, network with peers, and earn the opportunity to raise their very own animals on the Colonial High School campus. The Orlando Colonial FFA Chapter was recently ranked one of the top 10 in the nation providing an elite experience for all magnet members. Throughout their growth in the program, students work with instructors to develop and pursue educational and career aspirations related to the animal science industries so that all magnet students graduate prepared for college and career success.

Please note that bus transportation is not provided for this program.
