Online Opportunities

Orange County Public Schools has established the Orange County Virtual School (OCVS) in accordance with s. 1002.45 of the Florida Statutes to provide our students with high quality, full-time instruction in an online environment. This progressive choice program is providing expanded educational services to a wider student community for anywhere, anytime learning. Orange County Virtual School now provides part-time and full-time virtual school opportunities for grades 6-12. Additionally, we offer full-time virtual school for grades K-5.

Orange County is proud to announce that we are partners with Florida Virtual School, and K12 Florida to provide rigorous, highly customized learning environments for our students in grades kindergarten through grade 12. All teachers meet the State of Florida DOE state certification and requirements for highly qualified teachers.

Full-time K-5 PROGRAMS

Virtual education for elementary students (K-5) is provided through our district partnerships with, FLVS and K12. In order for students to be eligible for the full-time program for the 2020-2021 school year, the student must meet the eligibility requirements listed below.

Grades K-5 Criteria:

  1. Children who are five years old on or before September 1, 2020 are eligible to start kindergarten in August 2020.

  2. To enter first grade, a child must be six years old on or before September 1, 2020 and must have successfully completed kindergarten (Florida Statute 1003.21).

  3. Have demonstrated success in the previous 2 years of school. Final report cards (If student is moving to 1st grade, then submit kindergarten final report card).

  4. State/District testing scores FSA, iReady, other assessments from the 2019-20 school year. If student is entering Kindergarten, no test scores required.

  5. Reside in Orange County.

Eligibility: Section 1002.45, Florida Statutes restricts student eligibility for the district virtual instruction program to students residing within the district’s attendance area.


Full-time 6-12 PROGRAMS

Full-time OCVS Students

Orange County Virtual School (OCVS) offers full-time enrollment options for students in grades 6-12. Full-time OCVS students are registered as public school students, take part in the FSA and other district testing, and have the opportunity to earn a standard Orange County diploma. In order to be accepted as a full-time student with OCVS for the 2020-21 school year, you must:

 1. Have demonstrated success in the previous semester courses

2. Have attained grade level proficiency on at least one of the following standardized test in the 2019-20 school year:

a. Florida Standards Assessment (FSA)

b. All End of Course (EOC) Exams that student has already taken

c. Stanford Achievement Test (50th percentile or higher on the Reading section)

d. Iowa Test or Basic Skills (50th percentile or higher on the Reading section)

e. Grade level proficiency on an official standardized test administered by another public school system

3. Reside in Orange County

Students who meet the requirements listed above must submit the online preregistration full-time student application. Students currently enrolled in an OCPS school only have to submit the online application. Your academic history is already in the data base for review. However, you will be contacted if additional information is needed.

Students currently enrolled in a Non-OCPS school you must submit academic records (transcripts or report cards), any and all standardized test scores for review. Please submit by fax to 407-317-3407 within a week of application submission date. However, you will be contacted if additional information is needed.

All students who currently have an Individual Educational Plan (IEP), Educational Plan (EP), 504 accommodations plan must submit copies of current plan by fax to 407-317-3407 within a week of application submission date. * Submitting an application does not guarantee enrollment to the Orange County Virtual School. Students must meet criteria for full-time enrollment in order to be accepted. In order to proceed, please read the following statements.

* I meet the criteria to become a full-time student in Orange County Virtual School

* I will participate in the FSA, EOC and other standardized assessments administered by Orange County Virtual School, (please note there is no ‘opting out’) OCVS is held to the same standard as Brick-and-Mortar schools and testing is mandatory for all students per Florida Statutes Section 1008.22(3), states in pertinent part “Participation in the assessment program is mandatory for all school districts and all students attending public schools….” (emphasis added) Furthermore, Florida Statutes Section 1008.25(4) further states in pertinent part “Each student must participate in the statewide, standardized assessment program required by s.1008.22….”

* I will attend the mandatory orientation session with my parent/guardian prior to begin accepted for enrollment by Orange County Virtual School

Home Education Students

In addition to our full-time program, Orange County Virtual School offers middle and high school courses to Home Ed students have two options at Orange County Virtual School. Students may:

1. Retain home school status and utilize free online courses for their curriculum or
2. Apply for enrollment in our full-time, diploma granting program(subject to the entrance criteria listed above)

It is important to know that OCVS offers high school diplomas to students registered in our full-time program only.

Orange County Virtual is not responsible for promoting home school students to the next grade level. Home Ed students are required to turn in their yearly evaluation to the Home Ed Department. In order to be accepted as a Home Ed student with OCVS you must register with the Orange County Home Education Department.

Public School Part-time OCVS Students

Public school part-time students who are enrolled in a traditional Orange County middle or high school full-time and may take supplemental courses online with OCVS. Part-time students take courses online for graduation acceleration, credit recovery, grade forgiveness, or to earn high school credit while in middle school. In order to be accepted as a part-time, public school student with OCVS, you must currently attend an Orange County public school.

Parent and student must inform the school guidance counselor of completed registration. The school guidance counselor will verify information online, ensure that the course requested is appropriate for the student, and electronically approve requested courses. Activation for public school part-time students will begin in August pending guidance counselor approval.

 


Private School Part-Time OCVS Students

Private school part-time students are enrolled in a private Orange County middle or high school full-time and take supplemental courses online with OCVS. In order to be accepted as a part-time, private school student with OCVS, you must reside in Orange County and attend an Orange County private school.

Parent and student must inform the school guidance counselor of completed registration. The school guidance counselor will verify the information online, ensure that the course requested is appropriate for the student, and electronically approve requested courses
