OCPS hosts training for an emergency incident

Orange County Public Schools will host a two-day multi-agency public safety drill called Resilient Orange 2019. The drill will foster staff training, teamwork, and information sharing in a plausible active assailant response scenario.

 

Resilient Orange LogoWhen:      Day 1 Public Safety Drill: Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Windermere High School, 5523 Winter Garden Vineland Rd, Windermere from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.

                Day 2 Student Reunification Training: Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Ocoee High School at 1925 Ocoee Crown Point Pkwy, Ocoee from 9 a.m. – noon

This operations-based exercise will help in the training of school staff and key community partners to ensure that personnel know and understand responsibilities and procedures required for an emergency incident on a school campus.  This exercise will evaluate policies, plans and procedures, enhance interagency coordination and cooperation by involving the key representatives during an active assailant incident.

Emphasis will be on rapid and accurate notification and communication, command and control responsibilities, information sharing, and critical protective actions. The school district and area first responders will participate in this exercise to further foster teamwork. 

Participants include; Central Florida Disaster Medical Coalition, Central Florida Intelligence Exchange (CFIX), City of Ocoee Fire Department, City of Ocoee Police Department, City of Orlando Fire Department, City of Orlando Office of Emergency Management, City of Orlando Police Department, City of Winter Garden Fire Department, City of Winter Garden Police Department, East Central Florida Regional Planning Council, Emergency Response Educators and Consultants, Inc., Florida Department of Education, Florida Department of Health in Orange County, Florida Division of Emergency Management, Florida Highway Patrol, Medical Examiner’s Office, Orange County Emergency Management, Orange County Fire Rescue, Orange County Medical Director’s Office, Orange County Public Schools, Orange County Public Schools District Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orange Technical College, Town of Windermere Police Department, US Attorney’s Office, and Middle District Florida. 

 

Special instructions for media:  

Media attending the event will park in a designated section at both exercise sites.  Media will proceed to the Orange County Public Schools Public Information Officer (PIO) mobile Joint Information Center (JIC) for check-in, complete registration, and coordination. A pool camera will be selected to capture video for all media to use of the exercise site. Media members are escorted to designated areas and accompanied by a PIO Media Coordinator at all times. Select PIOs from some of the agencies mentioned above will be present to explain the exercise and answer questions. Due to the sensitivity of the exercise all bags and/or equipment are subject to search.
