Orange County School Board held a Rule Development Workshop to review three policies that needed revisions regarding procedures due to the pandemic.

Policy JCA - Assignment of Students to School
Added the following language, which had been previously announced, to ensure that students do not lose their transfer based upon choosing a different mode of learning in the 2020-2021 school year.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, for all students who have an approved Transfer prior to the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, if the student chooses to enroll in Orange County Virtual School, Florida Virtual School or any other educational option for the 2020-2021 school year, the student’s Transfer will be maintained for the 2021-2022 school year.

Policy JFBD - Magnet School Programs Policy
Added the same language as Policy JCA to ensure that students do not lose their transfer based upon choosing a different mode of learning in the 2020-2021 school year.

Policy EBBA - Disease Prevention
Updated the policy regarding face coverings as it relates to the following:
•  Certification of a medical condition that prevents an individual from being able to safely wear a face covering
•  Periodic breaks for students and employees
•  Outdoor activities where social distancing is possible
•  Participation in classes and activities involving musical instruments, choral and theatrical performance

Next steps: All proposed changes will move to a formal public meeting for discussion and vote on Oct.13, 2020.
